All About an LED Exit Sign
An LED exit sign is an illuminated sign that displays the word 'EXIT' above doors and along corridors in an effort to guide patrons towards the nearest exit during an emergency. Illumination is provided by a LED (light emitting diode) light strip, which is located inside the metal or plastic housing of the exit sign. The LED light strip produces illumination through a red or green translucent stencil that reads 'EXIT'. Exit signs are required by federal, state, and local building codes in all types of facilities. LED exit signs are popular because of their low energy consumption and long lifespan. Traditionally, incandescent or fluorescent light sources were used in the vast majority of exit signs. Edge-Lit LED exit signs feature a high-grade acrylic panel that features the word EXIT in red or green. A LED light strip is placed in the housing and illuminates the acrylic panel. The housing can be surface mounted or recessed into a wall or ceiling. Edge-Lit LED exit signs are favored for retail and commercial applications because of its high aesthetic appeal. Edge-Lit exit signs can be ordered with either a single or double-sided EXIT panel.
