Overview

The Sirocco Series Exit is offered in AC-Only, AC/DC or Self-Powered configurations. The industrial grade polyvinyl chloride enclosure is designed specifically for hostile environment applications. The Sirocco Series is fully gasketed around lens and canopy. The sealed faceplate is constructed of heavy duty, vandal resistant polycarbonate and features an evenly illuminated legend. The stencil-face has knock-out directional chevron arrows. A magnetic test switch adds to the ruggedness of the Sirocco Series design by reducing the chance of tampering and damage.

The Sirocco Exit Series is designed specifically for high abuse areas, wet locations, and cold weather applications. It is ideally suited for schools, parking garages, public areas, transit platforms, and security areas/prisons.

Advanced Circuitry

Self-Diagnostic circuitry is standard on all self-powered models. This circuitry is programmed to ensure the exits readiness and reliability by continuously monitoring every critical function of the unit. If a problem occurs, a single service required indicator illuminates immediately. A detailed diagnostic display is located on the inside of the exit sign, out of sight from the general public that will further indicate the nature of the fault. The self testing software will test the unit for 30 seconds every 30 days, 30 minutes every 60 days and 90 minutes annually.

Housing

The signs are listed to UL924. The exit housing is molded polyvinyl chloride available in either white or black. A universal mounting pattern is available on single face signs for back mounting to a wall or surface. All models come equipped with a canopy for ceiling or end mount applications. The faceplate and canopy have gasketing available for a secure, water-tight seal. Vandal proof screws are provided for securing the faceplate(s).

Illumination

Long-life light emitting diodes (LED’s) provide even illumination, at the same intensity during AC operation and in the the emergency mode. LED’s are mounted within the exit housing but not along the face or wording. An LED sensitive ink diffuser mounted on the face to provides full 3/4” letter stroke with even illumination. LED technology is ALINGAP.

Self Powered Models have a Nickel-Cadmium battery for long, maintenance-free life. In the emergency mode the battery provides a minimum of 90 minutes run time. Self Testing/Self diagnostics are standard on all self powered signs. The circuit has a single “service required” LED visible to the user. A detailed diagnostic display is located internally to the unit and isolates the fault to the battery charger board or LED lamps. The self testing software will simulate a power failure and transfer the light source to the battery for 30 seconds every 30 days, 30 minutes every 60 days and 90 minutes annually in accordance with NFPA 101. The unit is supplied with an AC pilot light and a magnetic proximity test switch for manual testing. The charger is fully automatic, solid state, temperature compensated and short circuit protected.

Durability and Vandalism

Rugged poly vinyl chloride body, will not dent, peel, rust or corrode. The sealed faceplate is constructed of heavy duty, vandal resistant polycarbonate and features an evenly illuminated legend. The fully gasketed faceplate is fastened with stainless steel tamper-resistant screws. Models can be wall, end or ceiling mounting. Legend and chevron complies with UL and CSA requirements.

Environmental Suitability

*AC only and AC/DC units are listed for use at -40°C to + 40°C Sirocco series exits signs are unaffected by the vibrations, ambient temperature swings and typical power surges detrimental to standard exit light sources.

When in emergency mode the exit remains illuminated. The unit is capable of operating in the event of a power loss using self-contained battery for a minimum of 90 minutes per UL924. When AC power returns to the unit, the emergency power will turn off and the unit commences recharging.

Housing

The Sirocco SRWE Exit's NEMA-4X rated housing can withstand moisture, dust and corrosion. The faceplates are molded of heavy-duty vandal-resistant polycarbonate and the rugged UV-stabilized thermoplastic body will not dent, peel or corrode. The unit is equipped with stainless steel tamper-proof screws. A special bit is provided with every unit and additional bits can be ordered separately (see accessories). The unit comes in a choice of three housing colors: white, black or gray. The unit is NSF Certified for use in food processing plants.

Mounting Ability

The unit comes standard with a universal mount canopy kit allowing end, ceiling or wall-mount installation. A universal knockout pattern allows direct mounting on junction box. Knockouts are also available for conduit entry and are located on the top and both sides of the unit. An optional pendent top adapter can be added to extend the fixture down from the ceiling where high ceilings exist.

The Sirocco Series Wet Location Exit unit is equipped with the fully automatic Advanced Diagnostic micro-controller board. The micro-controller tests, detects and indicates battery, charger circuitry, lamps or LED strip failures. An external LED signals a general service alarm while an internal diagnostic LED display indicates the nature of failure. The board is factory preset to non-audible diagnostic and a 15 minutes time delay. These functions can be enabled or disabled during installation. The equipment comes standard with a dual voltage input of 120/277 Vac and 60Hz. 120vac or 277vac dual circuit configuration is also possible. 6vdc-48vdc input is an option.

Power Consumption

1.2 W for AC and AD/DC versions and 3.7 watts for Self Powered Version.

Charger

Unit comes with a sealed, maintenance-free Nickel- Cadmium battery, and is suitable for wet and damp locations. Without the Cold Weather option the rating is: (10C to 40C) (50F to 104F)

Self Powered Performance Testing

This unit self-tests for 1 minute every 30 days, 30 minutes on the 6th month and 90 minutes every 12 months. The unit is capable of full recharge in compliance with UL specifications. The unit is supplied with a magnetic test switch. A "Service-Required" lamp is located near the test switch and flash when a fault is detected. A LED-based diagnostic display is located inside the equipment and identifies the source of failure (battery, charger, circuitry, or lamps). Optional Audible Diagnostics alert is available.
You operate the magnetic "test switch" by holding the provided magnet near the AC pilot lamp, where indicated on the legend. This will initiate a one minute test. The DC lamps will illuminate for approximately one minute, then the unit will automatically return to stand by mode. Test can be cancelled by holding the magnet near the test switch again.

There are five diagnostic indicators: one external and four internal. Unit must be opened to gain access to internal indicators. External: General alarm, "Service Required". The LED will turn-on if any alarm condition is detected. Internal: Battery Failure, Battery Disconnect, Charger Failure & Lamp Failure. Steady ON if alarm condition exists. Normal operation, No fault - "Service Required" is OFF. Faulty operation - "Service Required" is ON.

This is a multi-function indicator related to battery condition.This indicator will be illuminated when a wrong battery (ex: 6V battery on a 12V system or vice versa) or a completely depleted battery (battery voltage less than 65% of nominal) is connected to the circuit - Allow 24 hours recharging if the battery voltage is between 25% and 65% of nominal - it will also be illuminated if the battery has failed a timed or forced test (reached LVD level before the end of the test). In the case of incorrect battery, the circuit will disable the charge current.

Maintenance

The charger first continuously recharges the battery then, when the battery is at full capacity, the charger periodically pulse charges the battery in stand-by mode. This pulse-type charger promotes long battery life and reduces the potential for grid corrosions. Its charge voltage is factory set to +/-1% tolerance and is temperature compensated. The charger incorporates Lockout and Brownout Circuits, and Low Voltage Disconnect. It protects the unit from over-current, short-circuit, and reverse polarity.

wall(back) or ceiling(top) single or double face. Optional Pendent Top Adapter for lowering the height of the unit when installed with high ceilings can be ordered.

Directional Indicators

Knockouts allow you to select no arrows, left arrow, right arrow, or both arrows at installation time.

Electrical Connections

Using the sealed AC nipple/wire assembly (3 wires), connect one end to the transformer leads, inside the enclosure, and the other end, to AC line voltage inside the junction box. Connect the white lead to neutral and the green lead to ground. Connect the purple lead to AC line voltage and to appropriate transformer lead. Unused primary wire must be insulated to prevent shorting.
