The PHOTO series photoluminescent exit sign is made from recycled aluminum and is listed to UL 924 by ETL, which means it is code compliant for both high and low level applications in the United States. The PHOTO series -photoluminescent pigment enables the sign to glow for hours in dark conditions, such as during a power outage or other emergency. The PHOTO series has an expected lifespan of 25 years.
These signs are an efficient, inexpensive, and eco-friendly way to eliminate the additional power consumption, high maintenance and liability issues associated with electrical EXIT signs. The PHOTO series is certified for use at a viewing distance of 50 feet. EXTERNAL SPECIFICATIONS
The PHOTO series recycled aluminum body provides sturdy construction that is capable of handling moderate levels of abuse. The face has a baked enamel with polished clear coat for brilliant shine. The PHOTO can be ordered unframed or with a black aluminum frame. The PHOTO series model can be ordered with an arrow kit to indicate the directionality of the nearest exit. Arrow kits are required for exit signs that are not placed directly above an exit door, such as throughout interior corridors.
MECHANICAL SPECIFICATIONS
All PHOTO products have been manufactured utilizing newly improved photoluminescent (glow-in-the-dark) pigments, which are based on Strontium Oxide Aluminate Chemistry. They are drastically different from conventional phosphorescent pigments, which are either based on Zinc Sulfide or on radioisotopes for their self-luminous properties. The initial afterglow brightness of Strontium Oxide Aluminate products is up to ten times that of conventional phosphorescent pigments. PHOTO Strontium Oxide Aluminate products deliver illumination levels of 508 millicandelas in the initial phase and lasts upwards of 33 hours, the time span for afterglow brightness to diminish to .32 mcd/m2 (100 times the human eye perception limit).

INSTALLATION
Prior to installation it must be determined that there is a minimum of 5 foot candles of incandescent, fluorescent, metal halide or mercury vapor light on the face(s) of the sign at all times during building occupancy. This small amount of light is necessary for the signâs pigment to charge correctly and maintain code compliance. If 5 foot candles of light is not available, consider installing a self-luminous tritium powered exit sign. According to the EPA, the average foot candles found in an office space is 50 foot candles.
